Case study: Device to diagnose a skin melanoma
We had the pleasure to work on a prototype for a device used to diagnose skin melanoma. The device is meant for doctor’s offices, however, as the usage of the device is not invasive, the diagnosis via the device can also be performed in beauty salons and other SPA centers.
The examination with the device works by exposing skin areas that are meant to be diagnosed to specific light waves in order to agitate the skin cells. Afterwards, the device precisely registers the reaction of these cells.
Our support included creating the mechanics of the device and its design, as well as creating a remote repository of the examinations made.
The majority of the mechanics were made out of stainless steel and aluminium, and the casing was carefully crafted out of PVC. The expected precision of the product required the use of CNC machinery of the highest quality. Our customer required a tolerance of 0,005 mm., which was necessary for a sensitive diagnosis.
The solution we found had to be usable for serial production, as well as fit into the price range marked by our customer.
